Ted Kennedy has been a main stay at conventions for decades. His fallen brothers, President John and Senator Bobby, still haunt the halls of past conventions in the minds of the liberals who feel social issues are the mainstay of politics and the main purpose for a career in the maligned profession. Senator Ted tonight still held forth the cause, national health care and with his recent tragic illness, it just might pass as the Ted Kennedy Health care bill in an Obama administration.
It took fortitude and it took a Kennedy-like determination to make that appearance in Denver and no one, even Rush Limbaugh, can take that away from this man. Ted Kennedy is dedicated if nothing else and to loyal Democrats he is much more than just a dedicated man. He has been the lone voice many times in a Democratic party drifting the right faster than a Mercedes with a blowout.
Now the downers and there were some. First of all, why not let Jimmy Carter speak? His appearance on the stage was worthy of any encore. Who made this lousy decision and secondly don't you think with the race issue being pushed by the right wing against Obama we might use a little less soul music and swaying back and forth by audience members. This is not a love-in, it's a campaign for the hearts and minds and the future of this nation.
Now back to the positive. Barack's Lady pulled it off. Who were those people saying she was abrasive and had a chip on her shoulder? Tonight Michelle was the light of womanhood in a campaign where gender was king. The bitterness is still there from the Hillary people or is it really the Clinton fans but this strange reaction that one gets from many Obama supporters if any non positive statement is ever made about their man?
As we enter day two this writer has a hunch somehow we will get pass all of this hard feelings. Hillary Clinton's turn is coming at the convention and then Thursday it will OBAMA 08.. Even those of us who miss the rough and tumble of a real convention where decisions are made with force and dedication and sometimes a little too much anger; we have to admit, for an info commercial, tonight was some show.
